About Us/History

The Pepper Tree Magazine is the first literary magazine in Sarasota and Manatee. This free magazine is published monthly to celebrate and give recognition to talented writers of all ages in our community. If you are passionate about something, you should express yourself with words. Our format is tabloid in size, magazine in content. Editor/publisher Julie Ann Howell, a resident of Sarasota since 1972, author of children's books, established the magazine in 2004.

Mission Statement

The mission of The Pepper Tree is to give unknown writers and illustrators a chance to become known and to promote literacy and the arts in the community.  We also print articles and short stories written by published writers so readers can learn from their experience.
